Fi was born in Malta and raised in Hampshire on the South Coast of England. Having studied art in the UK, she moved to Aix-en-Provence, France in 2008. There she continued to paint, studying with the Gardanne Art School and the Leo Marchutz School of Art. In 2020 Fi moved to the Algarve, Portugal and continues to be inspired by the colour and light. She has artwork on display in galleries across Europe and America, and boasts an extensive list of private collectors worldwide.
Fi became inspired by the stunning scenery and lifestyle in Provence, and the intense vibrancy of the light that has inspired so many artists in the past, notably Cezanne and Van Gogh. Depicting subjects ranging from idyllic natural landscapes and to bustling market scenes, Fi seeks to immerse viewers into the truly temping Provence lifestyle through energetic paintings, bold strokes and vibrant colour.
Fi says, “I try to paint fast in order to by-pass the intellect. If I allow my logical mind to take over when I am at work, the paintings can become static and less vibrant.”
Fi is excited by the joy of painting in the local landscape. She loves to immerse herself in nature; to feel the heat of the sun on her shoulders, to hear the chirping of the cicadas and to smell the wild thyme and rosemary. She assimilates these sensations and lets them flow out and onto the canvas in order to capture unique moments. Through her immersive artwork, Fi avoids the obvious, and instead, builds a sense of mystery whilst conveying captivating scene.
