Fonseca Martins

Painter, carver, sculptor and ceramist. Born in Tavira in 1949, where he lives and works. He originated from a family of artists going back to his maternal grandfather in the 1700’s who worked as a wood carver and gilder. Martins has a workshop at Santa Luzia, in Tavira, and is currently teaching at a school which he started in 1981. He is more recognized as a water colorist, where his main speciality was theme based in urban-oriented academic stress, such as floral windows, patios and interior houses. Running parallel to this work, and to seek other ways, the textured acrylics and contemporary sculptures and tiles occupy a large part of his work. Since 1069 Martins has had exhibitions of his work daily in Andalusia and the Algarve. During the nineties his work was split between the Euroarte Gallery in Lisbon and more especially in the Sparkasse Bank galleria in Germany, where private collections as important as BES, CA, ENING collection, are published among others and from individuals from across Europe, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. Martins regularly participates at fairs, biennials and halls of fame.
